Chairman of U.S. Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC), Jay Clayton, stated that Ether (ETH) is not a security under U.S. law. He also added that Ether-like cryptocurrency would not be considered a security.

This ended the period of uncertainty about how similar platforms to Ethereum would be classified in the US jurisdiction for tax and accounting purposes.
