Electrum’s founder Thomas Voegtlin specified that the development has been completed and the official release is round the corner.

Lightning Network is layer two of Bitcoin blockchain, whose aim is to enable faster payments at lower fees than the bitcoin network can provide. The product will be similar to Eclair, a lightning wallet that uses Electrum servers to interact with the bitcoin network.

Voegtlin noted that Electrum has developed its own implementation instead of integrating its existing lightning clients. “We want to give users control over their funds,” he said.
