Blockchain company MouseBelt, collaborating with student blockchain clubs at Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge, is officially launching its programs at three California universities. MouseBelt, funded by NueValue Capital with over 40 million dollars, currently helps 65 student blockchain communities at 14 universities worldwide.

MouseBelt will sponsor two programs of postgraduate doctorate studies. The first fund will cover research, mainly blockchain projects, in all three campuses. MouseBelt has set aside USD500,000 for funding, enabling five projects to rely on an initial funding of USD100,000. MouseBelt will also sponsor three engineering departments at universities.

In an interview for CoinDesk, university outreach director Ashlie Meredith said the program is designed to fill the gaps in the teaching system. Most universities do not hold blockchain classes. This gap is then filled by student organizations. Somewhat over a year ago, these student organizations became the basis for MouseBelt’s initiative.

Meredith said: “We aim to help these universities become a driving force for innovation in the blockchain space, as well as provide students and researchers with the opportunity for both theoretical and industry experience.”

Mohammad Sadoghi, head of ExpoLab at UC Davis, who has been working for MouseBelt in various positions for the past year, claims that student demand for blockchain courses is high. His blockchain courses can accommodate maximum 65 students and he was forced to create waitlists.
