Gaming Startup Wants to Connect Bitcoin and Ether

On 31 July, Blockade Games announced that it has successfully connected these two networks by sending a bitcoin lightning transaction in a way that can launch an Ethereum smart contract. The company ran its code on the Rinkeby testnet and is going to deploy it on the mainnet (with the real ether) in the coming weeks. All these tests are translated into plans to enhance lightning network support to Neon District.

In his blog post, the company’s CTO Ben Heidorn explained that it moved forward with the test because he believes bitcoin and ether will both play a major role in the future. In his blog post, he also says: “We also believe that bitcoin is the future of money, and many of our players will prefer to hold most, if not all, of their funds in bitcoin. We want to make it possible for them to utilize the bitcoin network as well as all the infrastructure of the ethereum and of other blockchain networks.”

By integrating bitcoin lightning network payments, they will be able to accept instant payments in bitcoin and immediately start their activities in any other chain, such as minting a new asset. The code for this unique type of lightning transaction is not yet public, but “we will open it once we’re sure it’s ready and secure for people to pull down and use,” Heidorn told CoinDesk.
