GBTC actively increases the number of its bitcoins

The Grayscale Bitcoin Trust is one of the largest and best-known funds specializing in cryptocurrencies. The name itself draws attention to bitcoin, but Grayscale also offers Ethereum Trust or the Ethereum Classic Trust. In recent days, however, the main attention has been drawn to the GBTC, especially to its size.

GBTC currently manages up to 285,000 bitcoins, which represents approximately 1.57 % of all BTCs. At current market prices, it manages BTC in the amount of up to $ 2.79 billion, and the size of the fund has been steadily increasing since its inception. This is the highest value this fund has ever achieved.

In 2017, $ 64 million was invested in the fund, around $ 220 million in 2018 and $ 438 million in 2019. Bitcoin thus enjoys popularity even among traditional investors targeted by the GBTC Fund. Since the beginning of 2018, when GBTC owned about 175,000 BTC, its portfolio has been actively growing (to 285,000 BTC). Equally, the total share of BTC held in this fund increased from 1.05% to its current value of 1.57 %, with no indication that this growth is about to stop.

Thanks to its increasing popularity, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust is one of the entities that own most of BTC. With more than 285,000 BTCs, it should rank second after Satoshi Nakamoto, who still holds more than 1 million BTCs. Other institutions and entities that own a huge number of BTCs include Bulgaria, Bitfinex, FBI or Winklevoss twins.
