The Dollar Wrecking Ball: Why is a strong US dollar so dangerous?
The rising US dollar strength is starting to produce cracks across economies and markets.
Bitcoin again showed its strength and potential. In particular, this potential has been demonstrated by the Bittrex cryptocurrency exchange, which transferred bitcoins worth nearly $ 500 million on February 16, with a charge for this transaction of exactly $ 1.51. The well-known Whale Alert Twitter account brought attention to the transaction of 48,952 BTCs (approximately worth $ 491 million). However, as this Twitter account noted, 2 different transactions took place. The first was to be done from a Bittrex wallet to an unknown address. Subsequently, all bitcoins were sent back to the Bittrex wallet in question.
Both of these transactions were supposed to cost a really ridiculous amount (compared to the amount of money that was transferred). The first of these transactions costs only 67 cents, while the latter cost less than $ 1 (84 cents in particular). Nearly half a billion dollars were moved for less than $ 2.
Bittrex did not make such a transaction for the first time. On December 4, 2019, Bittrex made a series of transactions, moving up to $ 9 billion bitcoin in less than an hour. Each transaction costs about 60 cents. With a total of 21 transactions, moving $ 9 billion bitcoin cost only $ 12.5. In the traditional banking and financial sector, as we know it now, such transfers would be impossible.
